Tim is a civil engineer and nature lover who is currently completing his PhD in Ocean Engineering through a joint program between KU Leuven and the University of Melbourne. His research focuses on hybrid numerical–physical modelling of multidirectional waves and currents—a field where academic rigor meets urgent, practical challenges.
While he values the intellectual curiosity and depth of academic research, he’s most energized by turning knowledge into real-world impact. This drive has drawn him toward ecopreneurship, where he sees an opportunity to bridge the gap between research and scalable solutions that benefit both people and planet. He is currently exploring startup opportunities to pursue after graduation.
Having lived and worked in Belgium, Australia, and Canada, Tim brings a global perspective to coastal and marine challenges. He is particularly passionate about offshore renewable energy, ocean decarbonization, and nature-based coastal protection.
Outside of work, Tim is deeply community-minded, having volunteered with various youth organizations for many years. He enjoys making music with friends and sharing life experiences with people from around the world. He’s passionate about the outdoors — whether surfing, climbing, hiking, or sailing — and finds that time in nature fuels both his curiosity and commitment to sustainability. For Tim, meaningful change starts with connection—to others, and to nature.
