Alessio is a molecular biologist and electrophysiologist whose work bridges academic research and real-world impact. He earned his doctorate from the Faculty of Medicine at Ghent University, building on research experience at the University of Milan and Justus Liebig University Giessen. Throughout his journey, he has sharpened his translational research skills, learning firsthand how to turn scientific insights into tangible solutions.
Today, Alessio occupies a unique dual track, merging academia with entrepreneurship. He leads an emerging biotech spin-off focused on discovering novel bioinsecticides to protect crops and public health. Under his guidance, the team has developed a versatile compound discovery platform that not only addresses agricultural challenges but also shows promise for new treatments in human health. These medical applications are being explored within the Faculty of Medicine at Ghent University. Alongside his research, Alessio is committed to teaching and mentoring the next generation of neuroscientists.
He envisions a future where biocompounds emerging from their platform accelerate the transition to sustainable food systems while also contributing to novel treatments for human diseases.
Alessio believes that every scientist has the potential to adopt an entrepreneurial mindset, not only to imagine a better future but to actively build it, one discovery at a time.
